Pale Flower takes its name from one of the songs that played in the background at a given moment through the creative process for this piece. I always listen to music while I cut and glue my collages. The female protagonist that served as muse for this artwork is the Canadian actress, Evelyn Brochu. The letters "BC" on her wool cap, stand for the Canadian province of British Columbia.

    La Sonera Del Mundo-Aymée Nuviola

    Paper Collage on Canvas

This is a portrait of our dear friend, Grammy winner and "Sonera" of the world, Aymée Nuviola.
The collage captures the city of Havana, its dancers, rhythms and spirit... which she certainly brings to us through her music, her life and her soul. The black and white background includes a few scenes of her life and career, which could not possibly all fit here! She continues to soar and I am grateful and honored to have made this portrait for her.

    Aida on Silver
    Aida on Silver

    30"x24"
    SOLD
    Prints Available

This piece is very close to my heart. As I began the creative process, the figure that was brought forth through colors and shapes reminded me of my aunt, Aida.
As I ran my fingers through the magazines I came across a silver thimble, and my aunt happens to collect them, so at that point there was no doubt in my mind I should name it after her. The silver background contrasts with the delicacy of the feminine traits and the elegance of her black top garment.

    SOLD

As an artist I was fearful of making a collage of the Blessed Mother, because I figured it'd be hard to capture the majesty and the humility, the loving gaze and the tenderness of the Mother of God. Nonetheless I ventured into it and this was the outcome. I am sure I received some help from above, for She is beautiful as only she could be. She is with her beloved Son, as always, because wherever there's Mary, Jesus is there also.

    Carminho Lusitana
    Paper Collage on Canvas
    36"x24"
    SOLD

Carminho Lusitana combines the portraiture of a contemporary Fado Singer-songwriter Carminho, with elements that allude to Fado in a more general sense. The cobblestones of Lisbon (considered to be the birthplace of this genre), the Guitarra Portuguesa, the azulejo tiles, all wish to captivate the viewer and invite the imagination to be transported... almost lured into a Portuguese voyage of sorts. Iron fences and flowers remind us of a country and a music that is characterized by poetry and drama, aspects that permeate the Portuguese culture which is that of mariners with hearts as deep and enchanting as the sea itself. The artist lived in Portugal for five years, and chose her favorite Fado singer as the subject matter.

Africa, by Toto, is one of my favorite songs. According to the band themselves, the song is about Africa, written by a guy who's never been there, but loves the idea of it. This piece has a lot in common with the song, for I have never been to Africa, but definitely love the idea of it ... This is my expression of such love.

This piece has the fabulous Dorothy Dandridge as its subject. It was commissioned by Ms. Tracy Ellis, and I enjoyed imbuing myself in Dorothy's life through music and film in order to make it. To this day, this is one of my favorite collages... it was truly a formidable experience to be able to honor this legend through my artwork.
